John Rach is a Councilman with the City of University Heights.  Having previous competed against 17 others to a vacant seat on council in 2015, John was appointed to serve and has already accomplished many goals. The city charter requires appointed members to appear on the ballot to carry out the remainder of their term at the next municipal election.  John is running to keep his council seat in the November 7th election so that he can complete the four year term that he was appointed to serve.

As a licensed architect, John believes it is his professional duty to shape the environments in which we live, work, and play.  This is why he has taken such an active role in our community and why he chose to step up for the role of City Councilman. His civic involvement in University Heights started long before his first 20 months on council.  Starting in 2012, John served as a member of the University Heights Board of Zoning Appeals.  He also participated on the NOACA Pedestrian and Bike Friendly Lane Project Committee, the New Zoning Code Steering Committee, and the City-Wide Master Plan Steering Committee.

In the last two years on Council, the council has gotten a lot accomplished.  They cut the ribbon on the brand new city park, approved the project for the Library addition/renovation, and appropriated two consecutive years of a robust road resurfacing program.  They started a City Land Bank, consolidated dispatch services with three other cities, moved the city payroll to a third party system, and replaced many city vehicles including garbage trucks, police cars, and a sidewalk snowplow.  They did all this and closed last year's books with a $2.5 million surplus.  However, there is much more work to do.  To learn more about John's plan, click HERE.
