About John

When you see John Rach walk into a room, you can’t help but feel energized.  Friendly and confident, John will quickly want to make friends.  Professionally, John wears many hats; an Architect, a Marketer, and a City Councilman.  Appointed to a vacant seat in 2015, John has served the City of University Heights as a Councilman for two years.  As one of the youngest City Councilmembers to serve his city, John chairs the Civic Information Committee, the Tech Advisory Commission and is a Liaison for the City Parade.  John is running to keep his council seat in the November 7th election so that he can complete the four year term that he was appointed to serve.

Before joining council, John served on multiple boards and committees in University Heights.  Starting in 2012, John joined the Board of Zoning Appeals, a quasi-judicial independent body that reviews zoning appeals requests from residents and business.  He also served in the NOACA Bike/Pedestrian Lane steering committee and the 2017 City Master Plan.  With extensive knowledge in the local zoning codes, John also served on the steering committee to update our city’s antiquated zoning codes.

Beyond his civic duties, John is a Registered Architect.  He began his architectural career at CBLH Design in 2007 as an Architectural Intern and quickly was promoted to Project Architect, to Associate and then Director of Marketing where he leads the Marketing/Business Development Department today.  As a Director of his firm, John has been instrumental in building brand awareness, expanding new markets, strengthening relations with current and prospective clients, and recruiting top talent to his firm.

In addition to his two parallel careers, John is the President and past Treasurer for the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services, a professional organization serving the Architectural, Engineering and Construction industry.

John is also actively involved in the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Northern Ohio Society for Healthcare Engineering (NOSHE), Construction Owners Association of American (COAA) and is the Secretary for the annual golf outing for the University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s outing.

Outside of his professional life, John enjoys traveling, photography and marathon running.  He is all set to compete in his 11th Full Marathon in his 11th State in October in Oregon.  You may see him walking his dog or training for his race on your street!
